Futapreneurs (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a student-led entrepreneurship community at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). This policy explains what personal data we collect when you join the community, apply to volunteer, or buy a Summit ticket, and how we use and protect it. We handle your data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
Information we collect
We only collect what you give us through our forms:
- Community sign-up: first and last name, WhatsApp number, email address, department, level, your community arm, the stage of your business, and what you want from the community.
- Volunteer (“Join the Kitchen”) applications: name, WhatsApp number, email, department, level, the teams you want to help with, your skills, availability, and motivation.
- Summit ticket purchases: name, email, WhatsApp number, your chosen arm, ticket quantity, and payment reference.
We do not collect or store your card or bank details — payments are handled entirely by our payment processor (see below).
How we use your data
- To register you as a community member and connect you to your arm.
- To review volunteer applications and organise the team.
- To issue and deliver your Summit ticket, and to check you in at the event.
- To communicate with you about the community and the Summit, including by email and WhatsApp.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the trusted services that run our platform, and only as needed to provide it to you:
- Supabase — securely stores our database and uploaded files.
- Paystack — processes ticket payments. Your card details go directly to Paystack and are never seen or stored by us.
- Resend — sends our transactional emails (welcome and ticket emails).
- Vercel — hosts this website.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — where our community and member groups are hosted, if you choose to join.
We may also disclose data where required by law.
Cookies
The public website does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. We use a small number of essential cookies only: a sign-in cookie for organisers using the admin dashboard, and a cookie for the event door check-in tool. These are required for those features to work.
How long we keep your data
We keep your information for as long as you are part of the community or for as long as needed to run the Summit and meet our records obligations. You can ask us to delete your data at any time and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.
Your rights
Under the NDPA, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is wrong or out of date;
- ask us to delete your data;
- withdraw your consent or object to how we use your data.
To exercise any of these, email us at info@futapreneurs.com.ng.
Security
Your data is protected with database access controls, server-side access to sensitive keys only, and encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.
Children
Our community and events are intended for university students and adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above.
